Leonard I. Green
Leonard I. Green (1934-2002) was a pioneer in the leveraged buyout industry and a champion of the arts. Leonard founded Leonard Green & Partners, the West Coast’s largest buyout firm, in 1989. Outside of a successful business career, Leonard was an active philanthropist. In 1986, Leonard became a founding director of the Los Angeles Opera where he later served as President, Chief Executive, and Chairman of the Board. The Green Foundation seeks to preserve and enhance Leonard’s philanthropic vision by focusing on Community Services, Education and The Arts.
Suzanne Green (1965-2022), daughter of Leonard I. Green, served on the Board of The Green Foundation until her passing in 2022. Suzanne was integral in expanding the Foundation’s grantmaking portfolio in Southern California as well as the Berkshire region in Massachusetts, where she resided. In addition to her involvement with The Green Foundation, Suzanne served on the Board of two other nonprofits: AnimalKind, an animal rescue service based in Hudson, New York, and SECORE International, a conservation organization dedicated to restoring coral reefs based in Hilliard, Ohio.
The Foundation’s mission is to uncover new opportunities, encourage growth and ultimately effect positive change within those institutions that best reflect our core focus areas and the communities they serve.
The Green Foundation is not accepting Letters of Inquiry or full grant proposals from institutions that it has not previously funded until further notice. Unsolicited, in-person visits are not permitted.
